For the Ardena Business Unit based in Somerset (US), we are looking for a Laboratory Assistant.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
YOUR ROLE
The Laboratory Assistant provides essential support for the efficient and effective operation of the analytical services laboratories for the support of QC, Chemistry and Microbiology, and product development activities.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:
· Performs routine housekeeping tasks for the Chemistry and Microbiology Laboratories.
· Performs standard laboratory operations such as carrying and dispensing of reagents.
· May perform standard analytical activities with direction from more senior laboratory chemist, such as solution preparation.
· Is responsible for incoming media and reagents.
· Perform laboratory assistance activities in support of microbial testing under the supervision of other microbiology analysts. These activities include disinfection of the microbiological laboratory and equipment, maintenance of inventory, and various data entry activities. This position may also perform environmental sampling and testing, and/or water sampling and testing.
· Is responsible for cleaning glassware, preparing solutions and assisting/ preparing samples.
· Handling chemicals and storing appropriately in lab areas.
· Where applicable is responsible for Inventory Management of laboratory consumables
· May perform instrument calibrations
· Maintain inventory and order laboratory supplies
· Glassware washing and cleaning.
· Maintain notebooks and files compliant with current GMPs and SOPs
· Support with data entry for Certificate of analysis and summary report.
· Support with Sample management in terms of sample custody (logging out samples for analysis and return of sample for disposal).
· Support for data entry role in Laboratory information management system.
· Requesting, maintaining and archiving instrument logbooks.
· Maintains good housekeeping of all work and storage areas.
· Complies with Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities for the position.
· Is responsible for adhering to laboratory SOPs, GMP regulations, and laboratory safety rules in performing all laboratory functions.
· Other tasks as assigned.
YOUR PROFILE
Education and Experience:
High school degree or equivalent (GED) with 5+ years of experience.
College degree with 0-1 year of experience.
Knowledge/Skills:
Mathematical and reasoning ability
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift 10-30 pounds.
Be accessible to laboratory and operation area(s) and office staff and to use required office equipment.
Specific vision requirements include reading of writing documents and use of computer monitor screen frequently.
Physical Requirements:
Individual’s primary workstation is located in the office and laboratory area, where the noise level is low.
Employee may be present on the manufacturing floor where the noise level is low to moderate to high.
Work Environment/Safety Conditions:
Must wear safety glasses, in addition to other specified PPE, in all designated areas.
Must follow any applicable plant safety requirements
Must be capable of wearing air purifying respirator and be fit-tested/trained as per OSHA regulations.
Must be trained in hazardous material procedures.
Must be capable of wearing steel-toed safety shoes for 8 to 12 hours a day, depending on duration of the shift.
Working conditions will be Temperature and Humidity controlled.
Individual’s primary work-area is located in the laboratory area, where the noise level is low.
Employee may be present on the manufacturing floor where the noise level is low to moderate to high.
Certain operations may require hearing protection.
